A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT...

...And it was trashed! Today I accompanied the scouts to a waterway cleanup with a group called "Rivers Alive". We were part of a larger group made up of other troops, girl scouts, church groups, high schoolers and several county organizations.
It was hard work, and the guys did a GREAT job. In fact it was also kind of fun. I brought my trailer and four-wheeled into the woods on a narrow access trail to help remove over six tons of debris left in the water and along the trail.
Here I am hauling a typical load out along the trail. Check out that pile over my shoulder! In fact, here is a better shot, taken of the same load.
We catalouged over 60 tires, 5 matresses, several TV's and an unknown number of bicycles and parts. There was even a full set of matching living room furniture! It was aqua-marine in color and apparently from the "Fred Sanford" collection. We also cornered the market on shopping carts! At least nine came out for recycling. Maybe a little WD40 and some steel wool, huh?
At days end we had a group photo. And the call for FREE FOOD!! It was really rewarding to be a part of this project and work with our scouts and so many other groups from the community. I really enjoy getting out in the mix with so many good people.
Like Joe and Tom... Scout leaders, river cleaners and great Americans...
