Born to Be Wild...

After a long week, I was really glad to get home Friday night and crash! It was great to have the family here and all together.
As usual, the grandkids spent the night and I went to bed early to catch up on my beauty sleep.
Saturday morning, Aaron and I went to an Eagle project at the scout hut. We worked on raised planting beds for wheelchair access by hopeful gardeners at Uncle Denny's school. Aaron fit in with the guys from his new troop well, and they did a great job assembling, sanding and sealing the massive units. No pictures on that yet, but I will post some as soon as I get them.
Next I set out to do MY good deed. Here is the short version of the story:
One of my customers recently commented on the fact that I had done a very good job of getting the mobility carts up and running at the store she runs. As a result she asked if I knew anyone who could use one of the little scooters that some people have. She had one in her garage that needed some work, but would probably serve someone in need quite well. I took the offer.
After a good cleaning (the scooter had been sitting for a couple years) and a battery change, I was able to make a few repairs and adjustments and get the scooter working perfectly. Next I made a few calls and tried to see if there was a need at Denny's school or our church for the newly revived RASCAL. In the end I realized that my old friend, Steve Tully, was most in need of mobility. So this morning I loaded the unit into my JEEP and set off to surprise him.

As you can see, he was both surprised and delighted!

Steve has been confined to his house, and basically to his wheelchair, for some time now. He said that this little scooter has made him very optimistic about getting out and about again. I got some family members to roll him outside and then we did a test run of his new wheels. First on #1 (Low setting) and eventually all the way up to #10 (Holy Cow!! setting)

Please note huge grin while trying setting #10! YYAAAAHHOOOOO!!!!!!

After I got home I spent some quality time with Eve.

More about that later.

Tomorrow I am traveling to Gainseville to speak at a gathering of scouting friends. We are celibrating 50 years as a registered leader in troop 129 for Mr. Moseby. More on that later as well.

Right now Eve has a book to share with me and that is much more important than boring all of you any further.

See ya' next time...

I'm glad you were able to help your friend, Steve, out. I'm sure he now feels like a little rascal in his "Little Rascal". Maybe one of your scouts can build a ramp so he can come and go as he pleases??? Did Aaron move to your troop??? I must have missed something.....
Talk to you soon. Love ya!!

I had the same thought as my mom... I guess Aaron did make the jump to your ship?

Glad to hear everyone is having fun. I need to get my to-do list better organized... I'm great at sitting here at the station thinking about the things I should be getting done but then I forget by the time I get home!

All in all, I would say that was a pretty good week for all concerned. Good job.
Love.

Aaron enjoyed working on the service project. He went to bed without a fuss, too! More service projects, please!

Eve loves Grampa!

Steve looks pleased as punch. Great work!

I love the smile on Steve's face while riding at MACH10 on his scooter. He was our best man when we wed almost 31 years ago and a fine fellow. It was great that you got to do the Eagle project with Aaron and of course Eve loves to walk in the woods and see the critters with Grandpa Jim.
