LATEST GOINGS ON ...

KIDS STILL RUN THE HOUSE...
...and help keep it up as well. I recently had to repair our garage door when one of the lift cables parted and the door became unbalanced. I was able to install two new cables and get the door back on track, but there was an oil stain from the opener on the front panel. After cleaning and tightening the door I got the kids to help me prime and paint. The end result was great!!
THE SCOUTS VISIT 911 CENTER...
Our guys had a chance to visit the county 911 emergency center on (not suprisingly) september 11th. We had a very enlightening tour that met some of their requirements for citizenship and allowed them to view and listen in on some of the going's-on that emergency workers deal with daily. Next time you get the chance please say thank you to a first responder for all they do.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AGAIN...
A good number of our scouts and families joined the local civic association with another "RIVERS ALIVE" project this weekend. We joined others from local schools, churches and community groups to clean a stretch of waterway in our neighborhood. The troop was ready to go (clean and eager) when we left the scout hut.
Once on scene we set to work and cleared access points to the river and removed tons (literally) of trash and debris left behind by thoughtless jerks. Our team managed to pull out a clothes dryer, a large fridge, numerous car parts, almost a dozen tires and a huge mound of general trash.
Overall, several dumpsters were filled with more than 7 tons of debris. Many items were seperated and sent for recycling and the river is running much cleaner and clearer. We were dirty and wet but had a great time and did a good deed for our community.
...AND OF COURSE BIRTHDAYS!!
Mid-september is birthday big-time for our family. Eve turned 8 on the 14th, Aaron was 16 on the 20th, Rachel became a teen-ager (13) on the 21st and grampa' survived another year as of the 22nd. Also, my mom had a nice birthday dinner with us on her big day, september 27th. Noah was 10 back in may, but he deserves mention for being the only non-september birthday.
This year the Taylor's did a great job with novel birthday cakes. All the kids are big science fiction fans, and especially of the British series Doctor Who.
Eve has always been fascinated by the shows evil robots, called Daleck's. Her cake was a clever scale model of a fearsome Daleck, which she said was tasty. She also likes to aim her imaginary ray gun at unsuspecting enemies.
Rachel chose a very cool TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) time traveling police call box for her cake. It was completely gone in no time at all, relatively speaking.
Aaron, Grampa' and Mom all had more traditional birthdays and dinners. Next big holiday is halloween, look for photo's of clever kids and costumes here then.
Until next time, I'll be seein' ya'...
