With the whole family there to celebrate. We met at Bill's place and really enjoyed the day. There was plenty of room and lot's of food.
Our host had his "Big Green Egg" up and running all night, and with a bit of
help from assistant chef Steve we ate like kings. The ribs, brats and other meats were GREAT!
Everyone else contributed more goodies. We had vegetables and dip, chips, home-made cole slaw, chili and much more.
For dessert we even had a couple peach cobblers, cooked in dutch ovens by some of the kids, and older kids, in Uncle Bill's fire pit. We were STUFFED!
THERE WAS ALSO FUN AND GAMES...
Everyone had a chance to get together and visit. Aunt April spent time with Maddy, and the younger cousins all shared some fun together.
All of us really enjoyed getting together to catch up and share time with family. We also had some fun in the sun with ladder golf and, later in the day, some archery with the kids.
THEN DAD "ADDRESSED THE TROOPS"......and shared his thoughts on becoming an "octogenarian". He also reminded us that HE was the only one who had been arrested; that he knew of. It was a wonderful moment. Then he opened his gifts...
Peg took the lead, and with a lot of time, effort and support from the rest of us she managed to secure and assemble an amazing record of dad's service history. It is nicely mounted and includes medals and service ribbons.
AT THE END OF THE DAY...
We all were happy to have our loved ones close at hand for such a wonderful family memory. It was a reminder of our parents, us as parents and grandparents, and the hope we have for the future with our own families.
Until next time;
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!
And to all of you who are part of your own family, be the best you can...
