SHE NEVER SAW IT COMING...
...When freinds and family gathered to share a birthday surprise party for Sue on saturday. The grandkids and the rest of the family got ready while Granny had her hair done, and we went crazy trying to decorate in time.We even cleaned the house! Check out this really amazing cake from Victoria! Our family baker even added some little cakes that looked just like ice cream cones! They were delicious!!
ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE SHOWED UP...
I believe that Granny was very surprised! And we ALL had a great time. Thanks to all who dropped in.
AND NOW FOR THE "BACK STORY"...
Late thursday night Sue noticed that the drain plug in her bathroom sink did not work right. In fact, it had dropped right through the sink base! Long story short; The drain pipe was damaged and had to be replaced.
No big deal, I would pick up a new pipe on friday and slip it in. I had friday off to handle a few chores like the taxes and my gun permit renewal.
...AND THEN THE REAL ISSUE SURFACEDI picked up the new drain pipe when I went to get Denny. Later, as I turned the nut under the sink to remove the old drain - the bottom of the sink pulled away in my hand!!! A large, ragged, gaping hole in the bottom of the sink led me to understand that the whole sink had to be replaced!
AND SO I SET TO WORK... Saturday morning: The old sink was gone and we set about the task of replacing the sink, drain and everything else by the 3:00 PM deadline I had set. That was the time for the surprise party!!!
PLUMBERS HELPER... Noah helped get things organized, but then realized that the pipes looked a LOT like a lazer gun, so that was that. He did a really great job of removing the old sink bowl with a socket and ratchet. He is a real pro with hand tools!! Eve made an EXCELLENT seal around the sink with plumbers putty. She really enjoys doing projects. Next week is the HOME DEPOT kids workshop and we will be there. Thanks to the kids, I managed to turn a one hour task into a three hour marathon, but it was well worth the effort! We had fun and still managed to finish by 2:40.
AND WHAT NEXT...
Noah wants to build a robot from spare parts in my shop, Aaron has more Eagle project work in the near future, Rachel is always ready for any task that will help, and Eve, of course, will be front-and-center at the kids workshop .
I, on the other hand, am thinking about the fact that the other sink in our bathroom does not match the new one. Maybe next weekend...

It was nice to be part of the surprise. Sue deserves a party now and then. The sink thing looks good.
