...or even organized, but here goes. I don't have any photos from childhood memories right now, but if I manage to paint as fine a "word picture" as Bill did, I'll do OK.
HOW ABOUT...
Huge outdoor picnics with the whole family from Philly every time there was a christening, wedding or baby shower? A big wash tub with soft drinks and beer cooling in the shade out back. All the kids playing kick-the-can and the men pitching horse shoes. The women always cooked and ran the show for whatever the event was.
AND OF COURSE THERE WAS...
Bike riding: On the secret trails that ran through the "snake woods" or the back of the neighborhood in North Syracuse and on through to Bear Road School. Having a SNURFER long before any of these baggy-pants punks carved up the slopes with a snowboard.
AND WE HAD COUSINS...
Jackie Connaire will still call you "Einstein" to this very day, when he sees you. Karen will tell you that New Jersy will always make your shoes dirty. Peg and Carol always had matching dresses for important events. And we ALL wore mix-and-match "Buster Brown" outfits from Uncle Jacks fruit of the loom line (I feel good all under!!). And carloads of kids trying to get into the back-back of Uncle Ron's VW beetle for the trip down to Robin's Beach.
HOLIDAYS WERE A BIG DEAL...
Santa always put the tree up himself, on Christmas eve and not before. We traveled through hours of grey, wintery highway to get to grandmom's tiny little house for thanksgiving. And the windows were ALWAYS foggy from all the delicious cooking going on in that kitchen.
I can still remember watching her cook in that kitchen from our house, late on summer afternoons, when we all had the doors and windows open because there was no A/C.
I'M CERTAIN THERE IS A LOT MORE...
But for right now, that's about it. I am planning to scan in some old photos as soon as I get a chance. Older siblings will be in black and white, with a strong resemblence to Drew Cary. You youngsters will be more likely to be in color.
Until I can get some of those pix online I will just follow all of your postings.
Until next time; I'll be seein' ya'...
